Autumn Festival 2024

We are very pleased to present you the program of the 28th PERLEN Queer Film Festival Hannover!

We will be showing you a total of 31 screenings of feature films, documentaries and short film programs over 9 days until November. Then the nights will become noticeably longer - and so will the format of our program booklet! However, nothing will change in our enthusiasm for great cinema and our aim to bring the best queer film gems of the year to Hanover for you!

Thematically, films about queer people all too often deal with discrimination, violence and human rights violations. Last year, we received feedback from the audience that they would like to see “Queer Joy” on the big screen more often. We are happy to comply with this suggestion and have increasingly selected films that spread joy, empowerment and inspiration.

This begins on the opening day, when the feature film QUEEN TUT (Friday, October 25th at 8 pm) tells the story of a young, out Egyptian, a trans* activist and their joint fight for a queer cultural center.

The documentary SUMMER QAMP (Thursday, October 31st at 6 pm) about a summer holiday camp for queer teens and their first steps towards self-confidence and finding their identity is rousing and heart-warming.

The other end of the age spectrum is the focus of the inspiring French documentary IF I DIE, IT'LL BE OF JOY (Sunday, October 27th at 10 pm), in which three queers over 70 talk about their desires, wishes and dreams.
